The Fishing is great in Southwest Florida…
Especially when you live in your own beachfront real estate in Naples Fl or Marco Island real estate.
Are you a veteran angler hankering for a big game fishing adventure? Or do you prefer peaceful backcountry fishing? Maybe the quick thrill of a half-day expedition offshore intrigues you. Does fishing with a group on a party boat sound like a good time? You can enjoy endless fishing adventures as an owner of beachfront real estate. Naples Fl and Marco Island real estate ownership equals fishing every day of the year if that's what makes you happy!
Year Round Angling Marco Island and Naples are situated in the midst of some of the world's best game fishing waters, where an exceptionally large number of species prowl the waters. Tarpon, snook and redfish may be found in abundance while fishing on and around Marco Island’s shores. Largemouth bass and panfish, including bluegills and redear sunfish seek worms, crickets or small minnows year-round here. Whether you are a weekend enthusiast or avid sports fisherman, whether you prefer offshore or backwater, freshwater or inland, or just want to fish off your own backyard pier near your choice of the Marco Island Condos, you will enjoy superb fishing on Marco Island.
Fishing not your thing? Even if your passion for golf is what brought you here searching for golf real estate, Naples Florida and Marco Island real estate owners love sending guests out for a day of great fishing.
By The Side of The Road Lush tropical weather and five star amenities along with beaches, bays, hidden creeks, luxurious Marco Island Real Estate and Marco Island Condos, and hundreds of miles of pristine mangrove shorelines make Southwest Florida’s Marco Island a fisherman’s premiere destination. You will see successful fishermen angling in drainage canals along major roads, rods cast off backyard piers and boats heading into the warm protected waters of the backcountry. Angling near the Island’s artificial reefs yields tarpon, snook, grouper, kingfish, mackerel, redfish, sheepshead, and more. |
Deep Sea Fishing |
Millions of Acres Florida’s 3 million acres of freshwater lakes and 12,000 miles of streams and rivers contain over 250 different species of freshwater fish. This includes rare native fishes and non-native fish species (fish that come from outside of the United States and would not have been found in Florida if it were not for man's intervention). All of this adds up to terrific fishing, no matter where on—or off—the Island you choose to do it!
Backcountry Fishing Are you interested in Marco Island real estate and Naples real estate because the solitude of the Florida wilderness appeals to you? If so, backcountry fishing may be just the thing. Angling within Marco Island’s extensive network of bays, mangrove islands and tidal creeks is known as backcountry (or backwater) fishing. Southwest Florida has some of the best backcountry fishing in the state with thousands of miles of shoreline, countless oyster bars and acres of seagrass beds that attract a variety of salt-water fish. Roaming these waters are four of the state's most sought after game fish: the snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, and tarpon. Thousands of anglers come to southwest Florida each year attempting to achieve a "grand slam," which means catching one individual of each species in a single day.
Marco Island Fishing Inshore The shallow waters near Marco Island’s shoreline provide great opportunities to catch big snook, tarpon, permit, tripletail and big sharks in the spring and summer. You may also see varieties of jack crevalle, ladyfish and black drum.
Freshwater Fishing The state of Florida is well-known for its freshwater fishing (bass fishing). While Southwest Florida has only a handful of natural lakes, good freshwater fishing may be found in ponds, creeks and hundreds of miles of drainage canals containing tons of fish. While bass, catfish, mudfish, gar and panfish may be found in plenty here, a new exotic fish is working its way into Southwest Florida from the Miami area too. Look for oscars as you fish the freshwater canals of Collier County.
Deep Sea Fishing Are you a veteran angler seeking big game? If so, deep-sea fishing (also known as offshore fishing) may be just the thing for you! Charters to the Gulf Stream abound on Marco Island, offering challenging and exciting fishing, usually at depths of 1,000 to 2,000 feet. Seasoned anglers will delight in the challenge of the hunt for dolphin (the fish), marlin, sailfish, shark, tuna and wahoo. Depending upon your level of expertise and independent desire, you may fish the deepest waters of the Gulf solo, or ride along with a deep sea charter company.

Fishing Off Pier |
Licensed to Fish Current Florida law requires that you have a saltwater or freshwater fishing license before you go fishing, unless you are angling from a charter boat or other vessel with the appropriate licenses. There are exceptions. For example, any resident over 65 or under 16 may not be required to have a license. Licenses are good for one year. Non-Florida residents 16 and over must obtain either a three-day, seven-day or one-year license. Always ask about updated licensing requirements before you fish! |
Check the Tides! Don’t be caught unaware: if you are planning a fishing or boating expedition, it’s a good idea to review that day’s tides report.
Really Really Fresh Seafood Marco Island and Naples are well known for unexcelled, just-reeled-in fresh seafood. You’ll love the variety, some of which literally are taken straight from the sea and into the kitchen to be prepared for your meal. No visit to the Marco/Naples area would be complete without sampling these local delicacies:
-
Conch: these chewy clams are often served tenderized with limejuice, raw or chopped in a salad. Try them served chopped, breaded or fried as conch fritters or in a red, spicy, conch chowder.
-
Mahi (or Mahi Mahi): dolphin (not mammal); this firm, white-fleshed and deliciously grilled fish is best served blackened or Cajun-style.
-
Grouper: try the fried grouper sandwich! This is one of the mildest fish available, and is wonderful when served fried, blackened, broiled or grilled as an entrée.
-
Snapper: delicious mild, white meat fish is best with butter sauce made tart with Key lime juice. You will delight in snapper whether it’s been fried, blackened or broiled.
-
Yellowfin Tuna: you’ll love this firm flavorful semi-dark meat fish grilled, broiled or blackened.
-
Florida Lobster: commonly known as spiny lobster, this creature has no claws. Try Florida lobster tails broiled and served with melted butter. Delicious!
-
Stone Crab Claws: claws will melt in your mouth whether served hot or cold. Remember the butter and lemon or mustard sauce! |
